Do You See What I See?!

Would you look at this fantastic picture?!  I just stopped by at one of my regular blog haunts, Saucy Sprinkles , to catch up on what sort of things she's been up to in the kitchen lately and this gorgeous photo caught my attention IMMEDIATELY!

Do you see what I SEE?

Can it be?!  I need to take a closer look......

I think Saucy has purchased.......

a DARVONDA Hydrangea! I'd recognize that pot anywhere.

There's no better feeling than knowing that one of our babies has found a VERY GOOD HOME all the way in Central Canada somewhere.

Now, make sure you go check Saucy's blog out because she is one creative gal.  Her cupcakes are works of ART.

Real Weddings Vancouver Spring 2011

What an exciting day at the Greenhouse today!  It's not all about flowers though.  Nope.  Today it's all about Junior and his Cinderella who have been featured in the Real Weddings Vancouver magazine!  Is that COOL or WHAT?!

First of all, you need to realize that I am a magazine fanatic with a collection boasting a ton of wedding magazines and Martha Stewart editions that proudly sit in a basket in the living room for whenever I need a little INSPIRATION.

I certainly never imagined that one day I would see an article about our very own FAMILY WEDDING inside those glossy pages!

Actually, I've been stalking my local Chapter's book store for the past few weeks because I KNEW that it was going to hit the shelves soon.  The suspense was KILLING me!  But it's finally out and I've bought an armful to give away to my closest friends and family......

I mean, my sister Lisa's beautifully decorated wedding cake is right there, front and center for everyone to drool over.  She NEEDS a copy.

Then there's that fabulous photo of the most delicious cheesecake made by our LOGISTICS GUY/EXECUTIVE CHEF Gary.  He did such a fantastic job on the food that night, we need to make sure he has a copy for his files as well.

The article inside is very cute as well.  I found out that Junior proposed to his Cinderella while out for a picnic that consisted of Chinese food.  He stuffed her fortune cookie with a special little message that read "WILL YOU MARRY ME?"  How romantic is THAT?!

I think I'm going to have to go back to the store and get a few more copies.  They are available in BC at select Chapters, London Drugs and Safeway stores.   Don't bother going to the Langley London Drugs by Walmart though.  I've already cleaned them out.  Sorry about that!

Baby Boomers Shun Being Called Grandma

Aunty "Gramma" Lisa at her daughter's wedding this past March
As I drove my 2 teenagers to school this morning I heard a report on the radio that really got me thinking.  The reporter stated that the Baby Boomer generation is not too crazy about being called Grandma these days.  As a matter of fact, they are slightly embarassed by the moniker.

Gwenyth Paltrow recently said in a TV interview that her Mom, Blythe Tanner, wanted to be called Woof instead of Grandma.

“My mom’s hot and she didn’t want to be called Grandma,” Paltrow said on Chelsea Lately. “So she kept trying to make the Woof thing stick. It’s even her e-mail address.”

I am here to tell you that not ALL Baby Boomers think that way.  My sister is the BEST example of the perfect Baby Boomer Grandma who wears her name with PRIDE.

First of all, please let me introduce you to her SEVEN grandchildren.....

Grandbaby number 1:

Grandbaby #2:

Grandbaby #3 and #4:

Grandbaby # 5:

Grandbaby #6:

And last but not least......Grandbaby #7:

My sister loves being a Gramma so much that even MY Granddaughter calls her "Aunty Gramma Lisa"!

Me and my sister, we embrace being BABY BOOMER GRANNY'S.  We get together as family and friends to enjoy the noise, mess and mayhem that comes with being a GRAMMA every chance we get.  Check out our most recent "GRANNY FEST" caught on video by Mini Me who thoughtfully filmed and edited the event as a lovely gift for the Birthday Boy!

Maybe it's our dutch heritage that makes us wear our "grey hair" with pride....or maybe we're not the only ones out there who think being a Grandma is the best thing in the whole wide world.  What's your thoughts on this subject, dear blogger peeps?  I'd like to hear what YOU think about all this GRANNY fuss.

Leave me a message and let me know how things go in your neck of the woods!  I love hearing from you all.

Toddler Tote - For The Gramma On The Go!

After spending the weekend back home with my family, I have come up with a new and exciting business concept.  Seeing as I find it so very DIFFICULT to leave the Wee One behind when I travel, it came to me suddenly that I should be able to take her along with me as easily as Jessica Simpson takes her little dog wherever she goes!

I can imagine that there is a HUGE population of grandmother's out there who would LOVE to be able to easily tote their darling grandchild in a fashion forward bag that would easily fit under the seat of any airplane headed for any destination.

INTRODUCING........the TODDLER TOTE!

Your grandchild will easily fit inside......

and the 2 of you can travel together in style to exotic locations around the world!

I do believe this is the best NEW PRODUCT idea I've come up with in my entire career.

There is one other product I would like to call your attention to.  Are you a Shakespeare buff?  Have you heard of this new, modernized version of Macbeth that's been produced by a group of talented English students here in the Fraser Valley?  Check out the TRAILER!  I can't wait to see the MOVIE.

On The Road Again

I can't believe I have to LEAVE AGAIN?!  I'm off to Calgary in a couple of hours to return to my garden center servicing duties but that means I have to leave my family once again!

I'm not worried about my OWN kids......

They're all grown up and old enough to take care of themselves these days.

What makes leaving so excruciating is parting with the WEE ONE!

I mean, those kissable cheeks......

those big blue eyes.......

She's got me under her SPELL!

Lately, she's learning a lot of new things and I'm missing it all because I'm off galivanting in the prairies, keeping my flowers fresh and watered at the store.  It has gotten so bad that I had to hire a professional videographer to catch all those special moments on film for me so I don't miss too much.

To make matters worse.........

by the time the summer rolls around, there are going to be TWO big reasons why I can't bare to leave home anymore!

A Night Out In Vancouver

This spring season has been a wild and wacky one as usual.  The Big Guy and I spent almost the whole week out in Calgary helping to keep the garden centers watered and organized for our favorite Big Box store out in the prairies.  We climbed, pulled, sorted, chucked and watered for hours and hours in the baking hot sun.  Oh, how fun it is to be in the GREEN INDUSTRY in the spring.

We flew back home on Friday so we could spend an evening with the kids.

Lucky me, I got invited to go with Mini Me to Vancouver to see BJ Block and Dawn Pemberton live in concert at the Raw Canvas in Yaletown.  How much better does it get in life than to be able to hang out with your UBER COOL teenager and a bunch of artsy fartsy peeps in the most BEAUTIFUL city in the world?!

It just doesn't get any better......

Well, the 2 glasses of wine I had while watching my baby at work with her new Rebel T2i video camera may have helped to put an even nicer shine on the evening.

The following day Mini Me and I flew back to Calgary to help out in the garden center again, since the weather was hot and windy and the shoppers were flocking to buy plants.  Somehow, in between all that crazy busyness, she still managed to edit a FANTASTIC video of all the fun we had.

Check it out!

So, I was thinking that maybe I should organize a ladies night out at the Raw Canvas some time soon.  You know, when life gets a little less crazy around here.  Wouldn't that just be a hoot?!  Painting, eating and enjoying good music and fine company........anybody interested?!

In case you were wondering about how we got an invitation to the Raw Canvas gig in the first place, BJ Block has been teaching Mini Me guitar for the last 4 years and made sure to save us 2 front seats.  He's the COOLEST DUDE we know.

It Comes Full Circle

Spring season is finally here and all our hard work over the last year has come full circle.  The planning and the travelling are now at least a year behind us.

All of our Ceramic from Thailand has arrived.....

and all of our metal items from India have landed as well........

Even all the product from China has made it safely to Canada.......

and has gone straight in to the garden center at my favorite Big Box store!

What a journey it has been to get this far.  We've flown THOUSANDS of miles.....

Survived Hurricane Megi......

Experienced some crazy traffic filled with all sorts of dangers and wonders......

Eaten at some pretty EXOTIC locations.....

And nursed numerous nasty blisters due to my insistence on wearing completely inappropriate footwear aka. high heels, wherever I go!

Can it really only be ONE YEAR?!

But everything is all coming together and our product is now going off to a Big Box store near YOU for some amazingly LOW PRICES!  Everything is selling like crazy.  I've been in Calgary for the last week helping out at the stores, watering, condensing, cleaning and sorting.  I want to make sure that our plants look PERFECT for our customers.

I bet you are curious to see what we all have in the stores, aren't you?!  Well, just check out this video made once again by my amazing daughters.  Bet you're gonna want to run down to the garden center once you've seen it!

Saying Goodbye

This week we had the difficult task of saying goodbye to my dad.  Last Monday he was busy doing deliveries to my favorite Big Box store and this Monday we were trying to figure out how to go on without him.  We knew he was sick, struggling with a diagnosis of COPD and cancer but it still came as a shock.  It's never easy to say goodbye. We are going to miss him terribly but we are comforted in the knowledge that he has gone on to be with his Lord and Saviour in heaven.

In the meantime, life goes on and things are getting crazy busy at the greenhouse.  I am so proud of all my Darvonda peeps, who keep on working hard night after night, pumping out the flowers by the semi truck full.  They are just such an incredible bunch of dedicated people.  I wish you could meet them all in person but of course, that would be impossible since there's just too many of them to count.

So, I thought I would do the next best thing and have Mini Me make me a short video that gives you a little bit of a feel for what we are all going through right now.

Now, make sure you don't forget to stop by your local garden center and buy something for you Mom this weekend.  Don't wait to say "I love you" until it's too late!
